Art-Text by Jennifer K Dick now showing in Australia

 I am thrilled, and humbled, by the invitation to partake in this group art show "WHEN YOU CALL MY NAME" curated by Mayu Kanamori (click HERE for her participant's page, then on names to see her works) which opened on 11 Sept 2025 and will be going until 22 Sept 2025 in Canbera, Australia at: Australian National University: Coombs Building Coombs Tea Room Foyer, 9 Fellows Rd Acton, ACT. Here is the image of the window I made a text-paint collage across for Tomashi Inouye:

I was supplied with a name, and some background information, then went out and did more research and reflected on the position of someone in my time, and from my background, trying to address a hidden/lost history of the person I was asked to dedicate a work to: Tomashi Inouye. As I wrote in my artist statement, available at the show's website and in the catalogue:

As for the text, I have continued to revise it and sharpen it, but I have also thought through time of this person I do not, will not, ever know, and hope others will also think of him and the other names that Mayu selected to be part of this wonderful project. As she declared:

ECRIRE L'ART le livre...Dossier des ouvrages exécutés

Finalement, après 10ans de rencontres à la Kunsthalle Mulhouse centre d'art contemporaine, on va fêter cela avec notre LIVRE Dossier des ouvrages exécutés, Ecrire l'Art avec un avant-propos par Sandrine Wymann et moi-même. So, after 10 years of organizing mini residencies for French authors, plus an Italian and a Lebanese author as well, we are proud to be seeing the culmination of the work in a book that is meant to trace the experiences we shared. There will be many events for this in French in France in the fall, and you can also order a copy via les presses du réel distribution hub starting in Sept 2019. But here is a sneak peek at the cover, by the amazing graphic artist who worked on this project, extending the collaborations into yet another realm, that of book making. Jérôme Saint-Loubert Bié

From art to text to text to art JKD and the Regional 17

Currently, I am in residence as part of the Regional 17 art show with both the Kunsthalle-Mulhouse centre d’art contemporaine and Kunsthaus Baselland in Basel, Switzerland (from the 24 November 2016 - 8 January 2017).  During this time I will be posting texts on a blog about the ENCODING THE URBAN title and topic, on the artwork and texts based on interviews with the artists and curators. I also have an archi-textual installation on the Buffet de la Gare SBB in Basel, Switzerland.

Day 1 of VizJournalPoem Project May 2016

"Moi aussi, je suis peintre"--Apollinaire

About a year ago I purchased a GIANT Moleskin notebook at the Pompidou Center's spectacular bookstore with the vague idea that I would use the book to make some sort of one-off artpoetry book. "Play!" it invited me. But we all know how these things go--you get home then life takes over--the effort to make a single book just for me got shuffled under a million other "more important" things. The Moleskin was shelved.

But a few weeks ago, back at the Pompidou Center for the tail end of the Anselm Keiffer show, as I sat in one of the rooms and scribbled the draft of a poem, then shifted to another room and wrote a mini short story, the notebook came to mind once more. Keiffer's work evoked language, cited it, was crossed with it, or alluded to books and authors. But most significantly it awoke my own desire to play visually--to be the writer who let in the bit of the visual artist--to scribble over the pages, to dig into them with charcoal, to mash word and line into and perhaps even through surfaces. 

So, in an effort to not care whether the painting is sloppy or amateur, I began today the 176-page long Moleskin book as a sort of spring mental cleaning--reading and rereading old journals of the past year, I plucked out lines and fragments and painted and wrote, charcoaled and pasteled over and into the paint, collaged, glued a photo clipping I have had on my writing desk for the past years into the opening page. Thus I have begun the Moleskin one-off visual book exploration. To make me feel less insular in this process, I have also decided to post images of the pages as I go, even if they are childsplay--parce que, moi aussi, je suis peintre! The summer may already seem far far behind us, but one of the loveliest moments for me was the time spent in Verberie near Compiègne at le Moulin Rouge an old marberie (marble mill) with French and Italian poets and artists--Michaël Batalla, Gilles Weinzaepflan, Laurent Grisel, Marc Perrin, Anne Kawala, Andrea Inglese, Alessandra Cava, Mariangela Guatteri, Renata Morresi, Florence Manlik and myself, Jennifer K Dick. 

We were drawn together by Michaël Batalla and Andrea Inglese for a week-long intensive communal reflection on writing, performance, etc but also came to produce new writing and also then Gilles made a film and our week ended with a "BOOM" as the French say which we opened wth a reading performance of that work that we had all written and translated during those green, insect-laden days and those fireside reading-filled nights post bbq in the garden by flame and firelight. 

AND NOW the first of the publications linked to the time spent together is just about OUT--BENWAY SERIES 9! Presented this weekend at the EX.IT poetry festival and conference in Albinea, Italy!

It has extracts of each of the 10 authors poems --on one side in our native language, on the other in Italian translation--plus a drawing by Florence Manlik (seen in the photo of the folio above) representing in lines the interconnection of the 11 of us. Along one side is also a series of black and white photos by Mariangela Guatteri who is also responsible for the overall layout and editing of the publication of the Benway Folio series.
